Cavapoo Generations

Cavapoos are a delightful cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. Because they are a crossbreed, Cavapoos can vary in coat type, size, shedding, and appearance depending on their genetics and generation. Here is a simple guide to help you understand the different Cavapoo generations.

F1

Cavapoo

An F1 Cavapoo is a first-generation cross between a purebred Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a purebred Poodle. These puppies are approximately 50% Cavalier and 50% Poodle genetically.

F1b

Cavapoo

An F1b Cavapoo is typically produced by crossing an F1 Cavapoo back to a Poodle. This results in puppies that are approximately 75% Poodle and 25% Cavalier, often with curlier coats.

F1bb

Cavapoo

An F1bb Cavapoo is typically produced by crossing an F1b Cavapoo back to a Poodle. These puppies are approximately 87.5% Poodle and 12.5% Cavalier, and often have curlier, more Poodle-like coats.

F2

Cavapoo

An F2 Cavapoo is produced by crossing two F1 Cavapoos. These puppies are approximately 50% Cavalier and 50% Poodle genetically, although their coat types, appearance, and other inherited traits can vary considerably.

Multigenerational

Cavapoo

A multigenerational Cavapoo comes from parents who are both Cavapoos but may belong to different generations. These pairings can help breeders work toward particular coat types, sizes, and temperaments, though puppies can still vary depending on their inherited genetics.

A note about coats: Although generation can offer clues about a puppy's likely coat type, it cannot guarantee a particular texture or level of shedding. Every puppy is unique, and no Cavapoo generation is guaranteed to be hypoallergenic.
